"HVET 2.0" Cloud based Home Video EEG Telemetry. The Clinical Physiologist perspective

The COVID pandemic became the catalyst for our new cloud based
Home video EEG telemetry service model (HVET 2.0). This novel
approach has led to a transformation from a supervised to a remote
supervision using cloud-based technology. Since June 2020 we have
recorded over 1100 studies.
I will review the features of this new approach from a Clinical
physiologist’s perspective:
 Remote supervision with live streaming of synchronised video
and EEG recording, in contrast to the traditional model. (
HVET 1) Virtually abolished the off-site work.
 Cloud based recording made remote working/working from
home possible increasing the flexibility and productivity of our
physiologist work force.
 Daily and secure online data review with ease provided an
opportunity for earlier termination of the study and clinical
intervention.
 During the pandemic, many patients preferred the HVET
model over an inpatient VT study.
 The lack of community work allowed us to involve more junior
physiologist to get involved in HVET service
 At King’s we started using 24HR HVET recordings for failed
sleep EEG studies and were able provide online video-EEG
telemetry recordings at local DGH, eg for status monitoring.
 HVET 2:0 is reliable and sustainable with minimal disruption.
The power of cloud based “HEVT 2.0” has demonstrated safe and
sustainable practice throughout the pandemic and has led to an
80% increase in HVET demand compared to 2019.
