British Society for Clinical Neurophysiology promote and encourage for the public benefit the science and practice of clinical neurophysiology and related sciences

BSCN Triennial Course 2022

Every three years the BSCN organises a week-long residential training course in, Oxford. The 11th course will now take place at Pembroke College, Oxford from Monday 28th March to Friday 1st April 2022

For each course an international faculty brings together a field of knowledgeable and enthusiastic clinicians and scientists from the UK, Europe and the USA. The course consists of lectures, practical demonstrations, case discussions and quizzes.

Faculty members, all experts in their fields, will be available for informal discussions in College, and, in the evenings, in surrounding hostelries throughout the week. The course is intended for clinical neurophysiologists in training and those requiring an update on current practice, neurologists, clinical physiologists and clinical scientists.

The full course fee for residential attendance for the week has been set at £1200 to include 4 nights full board accommodation and all refreshment breaks but several discounts are available:

  • Members and Subscribers of the BSCN will receive a £100 discount
  • The society will offer 21 bursaries of approximately half the cost of registration to doctors in training in clinical neurophysiology or a related discipline, conditional upon them submitting a 15 minute case presentation to be given during the course Until the end of January 2022 these will be open only to UK trainees. These will be given on a 'first come. first served' basis rather than by competition so register early if you wish to take advantage of this. The registration fee charged for recognised trainees by the website will assume that you are presenting a case for now. Your case presentation title and subtitle, which should not give away the diagnosis, must be emailed to the BSCN administrator ( within two weeks of registration to qualify for the bursary. You do not howerver have to submit your full case until one week prior to the course. All 21 bursary places are now taken
  • A 25% 'early-bird' discount will apply until Saturday 18th December 2021

At the start of 2022 we are still anticipating that the course will take place. Registration fees are now:

Public: £1200

BSCN Members: £1100

Trainees in clinical neurophysiology or a related discipline £800 (Non-UK trainees should contact the course organisers with evidence of their status to secure a discounted invitation.

Meals will be taken in the hall of Pembroke College and on Thursday evening there will be a gala dinner in hall, also included within the course fee.

In previous years we have had several requests for a 'non-residential' rate for those living near Oxford, and for single day attendance rates for those wishing to attend just one or two days. For the 2022 event we will be running the course as a 'hybrid' in person and online event. Registration for the online version of the event will be possible on a day by day basis We expect this to include:

  • live broadcasts of lectures
  • question and answer sessions in which the remote viewer will be able to submit questions to a moderator
  • one of the practical demonstrations, rotating through each topic.
  • the quiz (no prizes for remote viewers though - only glory for the best score)
  • access to interaction with exhibitors

The lectures and practical demonstrations will be made available for remote viewing for a period after the event to allow those in other timezones to view comfortably. We will also be able to offer 1:1 chat facilities between virtual delegates but those attending virtually will unfortunately miss out on the convivial atmosphere that has characterised previous Oxford courses. There will NOT, unfortunately, be a non-residential rate for local residents. The 'virtual' version of the event will be run using the 'Hopin' platform and will have entirely separate registration arrangements from the main course. The costs will be a flat rate of £150 for each of the days Monday to Thursday, while the half day for Friday will be £100. Attending the entire week as a virtual delegate will therefore cost £700 with no further discounts. Trainees in particular are strongly encouraged to attend in person.

The following resources are currently available:

Booking is now open for in-person attendance through the BSCN events page. Payment is required through PAYPAL at the time of booking, please do not ask us to invoice your trust for payment

Registration for virtual attendance will open shortly and will involve a more complex registration process in order to gain access to the Hopin platform. Details to follow

Cancellation policy - bookings will be fully refundable on cancellation by the delegate until 6 weeks prior to the event. Late cancellations after that date will attract a 50% penalty. From two weeks prior to the event there will be no refunds as we will be committed to paying the college for your place, though the society will consider exceptional mitigating circumstances on their merits. Should the society be unable to run the event, because of further developments in the COVID epidemic which mean that Pembroke College is not able to accommodate us we will provide full refunds as we did in 2020.
