Dr Bland is a consultant neurophysiologist at East Kent Hospitals Trust with longstanding interests in carpal tunnel syndrome and ultrasound imaging of nerve.

Carpal tunnel syndrome was one of the earliest examples of the application of ultrasound imaging to nerve and it has been suggested that imaging could entirely supplant nerve conduction studies in the assessment of this condition. This talk will discuss the relative roles and importance of the two techniques with emphasis on situations in which the ultrasound imaging adds additional clinical value.
