Topic "Epilepsy research" a message from Dr Payne

The Epilepsy Research Institute’s Grant Round will open on 1 August 2024. Researchers in the UK are invited to apply for funding to support research investigating the causes, treatments and prevention of epilepsy. A key priority of the Institute is to convene, connect and capacity-build the epilepsy research community to create a strong, vibrant and well-funded ecosystem where research can flourish. As such, our investment in this grant round aims to fund ground-breaking research led by early career and established researchers.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we will be inviting applications for awards including:
· Entry Fellowship Awards
o For those within three years of their PhD award
o Up to £100,000
o Up to two years
· Emerging Leader Fellowship Awards
o Up to £300,000
o Up to four years
· Endeavour Project Grants
o Up to £175,000
o Up to three years
Further information and application details will be available on The Hub – our online portal (epilepsy-institute.org.uk) for researchers – from 1 August 2024.

Professor Mike Cousin, Chair of the Institute’s Scientific Advisory Committee, said:
“This year’s grant round has something for researchers at all career stages, with the continuation of our flagship Emerging Leader Fellowship and Endeavour Project Grants for more established researchers, as well as the new Entry Fellowship Award, for researchers within three years of obtaining their PhD. The Entry Fellowship Award will provide outstanding early career researchers with the impetus to develop a research niche and to pursue a career in epilepsy research.”
Dr Caoimhe Twohig-Bennett, Director of Research Operations, said:
“The Epilepsy Research Institute is proud to fund research with the potential to transform the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of epilepsy and associated conditions. This grant round continues our commitment to capacity build the epilepsy research ecosystem. This year we are specifically encouraging collaborative, multidisciplinary applications from researchers around the UK. The priorities of people affected by epilepsy are central to our mission to radically advance research into epilepsy, and this year will be no different, as members of the Institute’s Shape Network will be involved throughout the application process.”
Shape Network: Involving people affected by epilepsy in research
People with lived experience of epilepsy will continue to play a key role in supporting the assessment of grant applications through our Shape Network Application Clinics. These sessions bring together researchers and people affected by epilepsy to facilitate discussion and debate on potential grant applications. Find out more and join the network here.(epilepsy-institute.org.uk)
